Links to Learn more on Japanese rope bondage Chokushin Fudo Ippon Shibari
Kinbaku - The art of erotic bondage on its attached sister site, with really nice pictures showing the end result of such ropework.
Hojojutsu is a small but interesting site, which explains the historical origins of the traditional Japanese art of rope restraint. It also shows several traditional bindings.
Japanese Rope Art Japanese Rope Art focuses upon the psychology and history behind Shibari or Japanese bondage as well as providing some great actual 'how-tos' instruction. This is a very good page which I enjoyed reading. Some of the pictures are a tad small but clear enough in terms of showing what you're supposed to be doing.
Japanese Rope Bondage* offers a great anthology of how to techniques for different aspects of such bondage and best of all, it is free! Techniques covered include Shinju, (breasts) sukaranbo, (crotchropes!) karada (body harness) and a couple more. The remainder of the site requires AdultCheck to view the galleries proper. (note: Click on Tips and Techniques to Asymmetric bondage just below the flashing "ENTER" sign to access this section)
Japanese Rope Bondage is unimaginatively titled but it is a good site well worth a visit. I liked this place. I liked the nice discussion format with links to accompanying pictures.
Kikkou Kikkou is a simply but beautifully presented website that explains almost everything one could want to know about Shibari - Unfortunately, it is a paysite and there are no free samples. However, it is highly regarded within the community so it could be worth joining for this reason.
Masato Sato's page The site is entirely Japanese and it takes a very Japanese look at the subject of Shibari. Unsurprisingly, the text is also entirely Japanese but the amateur pictures have a lovely, charming quality of their own. As usual, there is also plenty of nudity here as well.
Rope for Pleasure is run by a bloke called David El who says: "The Dance of Rope Bondage is an art form. The ropes are an extension of the Rope Master’s sensual touch; exerting both pain and pleasure. Rope bondage is a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dance." Agreed. Anyway, Rope for Pleasure is constantly evolving and it mainly focuses upon Japanese rope bondage as well as talking about ropes, knots, safety etc. Lastly, there is an interesting if small b/w gallery of Japanese bondage.
Savane Savane is a French based page (probably part of a larger site?) offering step by step basic Shibari techniques. The text is French but the small pictures makes what is happening easy to follow.
Shibari Info Shibari Info has improved a lot since I added this site - it now contains four galleries each taking the viewer step by step through basic Shibari techniques such as the Karada rope harness and 3 other techniques as well as providing direct links to bondage-related techniques books. The computer-generated art used to create each illustration is also quite beautiful as well and makes it very easy to see where you're going.
Shibari - Technique for kinky sex in Japan This single page examines the current popularity of Shibari bondage and offers reasons why. Interesting reading. It forms part of a larger overall site covering Japanese culture in fascinating and excruciating detail. Both should be required reading for Japan-ophiles.
Tammad Rimilia's site. The Gentleman barbarian. Tammad passed away in a car accident on the 20th of November 2000 but his brother has vowed to keep it open in his memory. Although I did not know Tammad well, I always found him to be extremely friendly and approachable. Rest in peace, mate.
Tammad's site focuses mainly on rope bondage techniques. His site is one of the very few which explains Japanese style rope bondage techniques in a Western context setting. The step-by-step photos and accompanying explanatory text adds immeasurably to the quality and interest of the site. There is also a nice gallery containing both Asian and western bondage pictures. Unfortunately, they are not thumbnailed (you have to click on the link to each photo) but they are very good quality images. He also maintains probably the largest (400+!) links section I've ever seen on any bondage website. It is truly voluminous.
The BDSM Backroom contains some fantastic how to tips and techniques for applying various Japanese bondages- Best of all was the illustrations making everything so much clearer. It is a must visit. It is a five star site.
Powerotics.com/shibari magazine This is the "world of flowers and willows" as the Japanese call the exotic, secretive part of their society that deals with the mystique of Japanese eroticism. A world, unknown even to many Japanese. It holds many secrets, one of them being the art of Shibari.
Hojo Jitsu: Samurai Rope-Tying Arts Was used by the Samurai warriors and police of Japan to capture and secure enemy warriors and prisoners. The knots are both effective and decorative, showing respect for the subject and skill in their art. It was once routinely taught as part of many traditional Jiu-Jitsu systems, but is now in danger of extinction.
Here are several websites which provide a lot of information on knots
