Soon after September 11th, Blake Roberts enlisted in the U.S. Army; now, four years later, he has returned home from Iraq a changed man. Combining Roberts' intimate interviews with his personal footage of Iraq, Night Visions reveals how the wounds of military conflict are not always visible to the naked eye.

THE MUSIC:
There is a foreboding sense of everything coming apart at the seams in The Double's subversive take on pop music. Their Matador debut, 'Loose in the Air,' is an eerie, paranoid album steeped in a hyper-awareness of the impermanence of things. Melody moves through thick layers of noisy, manic guitars and heavily distorted keyboards, and drums fight through a dense fog of melancholy. Tender vocals soar high and low through an atmosphere of chaos—it's at once unsettling and utterly captivating.
The men of The Double are completely tuned into their own frequencies, seemingly unaffected by current trends. As a result, they have quickly attracted a loyal following that craves the Double's brand of sonic experimentation and innovation. Last year's 'Palm Fronds' (Catsup Plate) is a rock-pop album in the same way that David Lynch's Mulholland Drive is a romantic comedy. Still, in addition to charming critics, 'Palm Fronds' earned the Double a coveted Peel Session, as well as opening slots for Interpol and Blonde Redhead in Europe.

This year, the festivities, once again, return to The Roxy, at 515 West 18th Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues). Doors open at 6:15 PM, and the auction will run from 7 PM until 10:45 PM. Liquor, beer, wine and soft drinks will be provided at a cash bar. Light finger food will be provided. A sign language interpreter will be present during the non-auction periods of the evening. This year as every year, there will be a team of bootblacks to keep your boots and shoes looking sharp. All tips go toward the event’s total for the beneficiaries.
Event Promoter Will Clark, star of over 40 films, producer of the Bad Boys Parties (Palm Springs, New York, San Francisco) and the creator and M.C. of “Porno Bingo” at the 9th Avenue Bistro, and dawn marie, American Leathergirl 2006 and Ms. Philadelphia Leather 2005-06, will host this year’s event and keep the evening’s activities rolling.

THE JACKIE FACTORY's sixteenth annual NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STEVIES will be held on
Friday, May 19 at the legendary NYC performance club THE KNITTING FACTORY, scene of
the past two editions. Again we promise multiple rooms and floors for your twirling
pleasure, including a Stevie-themed lounge and balcony viewing of the Main Stage.
This year's theme is STEVIE IN WONDERLAND, an homage to her "Red Stevie/ Stevie In
Wonderland" persona, introduced on her 1989 album THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR. We
expect interpretations of many of the great songs from that album (including ALICE,
which will open the show). And from a fashion standpoint - if you ever wanted to
wear red velvet to NOTS this would be the year for it!

We are still adding our final performers to the bill, but it's HUGE already. One big
change this year is that perennial co-producer and MC HATTIE HATHAWAY aka BRIAN
BUTTERICK is opening on Broadway soon(see above). Though Hattie will only be able to
drop by and perform later in the night, due to this fabulous other commitment, she
is still lending her tulle-drenched talents as a co-producer of NOTS 16. Meanwhile,
fellow NOTS legend BELLADONNA (who has journeyed every year for over a decade from
SANTA BARBARA) will be hosting Act One.
